The winner and undefeated champion for all time remains, Jesus Christ, It is finished!

Hello and welcome to Day 20, of our Christmas Podcast entitled, “Out of the Manger.” Today we are going to talk about Jesus, our Champion. It’s time to take Him “Out of the Manger.”

If you are joining us for the first time, we invite you to listen to our previous daily podcasts which began on December 1st. In each podcast we have a new contributor share their favorite Christmas memory, gift, scripture or song. These podcasts are brought to encourage you and to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Stay with us to the end to hear Christmas music and announcements.

Today’s memory share is from emails sent in from Larry who lives near Northeast Iowa, and Katie from Western Iowa. Their Christmas memories are all about family. Apostle Charles will read Larry’s submission and I will read Katie’s submission. This is Stephanie Wright. Let’s join Larry and Katie now.

Larry: My favorite memory as a kid growing up (I was the oldest of six kids and living on a farm) was on Christmas Eve.  That night we always had to make sure that all the livestock was fed and had fresh bedding. Then our family would gather and have a meal of oyster stew followed by a Christmas Eve program. It was from a little book of Christmas Family traditions that my mom had for years. We all took parts singing and saying the different parts of the Christmas story.  After our program, we would all give each other a hug and wish each other Merry Christmas.  After that, we then would open gifts.   Merry Christmas! Larry

Katie: My favorite Christmas memory is staying up late with my older brother and looking out of the window to see if we could see Santa flying in the sky. I remember our breath fogging up the window and the feeling of childhood Christmas excitement. The memory is especially sweet because my brother passed away when he was 19.

Thank you, Larry and Katie. Your personal connection to this ministry and the memories about your families are the inspiration for this podcast today. Let’s talk about our champion Jesus and taking him “Out of the Manger.”

Commentary
Jesus came into this world as a baby but He came with all power in his hands. As I have said in other podcasts, He was packed with power. Jesus is our champion.

When I was in grade school, there was this girl who was about a foot taller than me who wanted to jump on me and beat me up because she liked this guy and he didn’t like her but he did like me. In fact, this guy and I were just friends but that wasn’t the way she saw it. In fact, it wasn’t just her but she had friends who were threatening me as well. Anyway, my little brother who was nicknamed, “Durkee” got in touch with some of our friends who attended another school and they got word back to this gargantuan bully that she and her cronies had better not put their hands on me and they didn’t. In fact, I got pretty bold and got in their faces after that. My little brother was my champion. My brother passed away in 2012, but I still remember how he came to my rescue. I sure do miss him.

When I was older and worked for an agency (for those of you just joining these podcasts, that’s the name I have given to one of my former places of employment) anyway, I had a “big brother” who looked out for me at the agency. He was my champion. One day, the powers that be attacked his character in legal documents and through legal channels. That was when I decided to step up and speak out against those powers and in his support. I filed an affidavit disputing everything they said about my friend. I knew I was taking a chance on getting fired but instead of firing me they punished me by denying me a promotion a few years. I really didn’t care. I would have done it all over again because I have a very strong aversion to bullies and I hate bullying.

Now to be fair and keep myself out of hot water, my husband has always been my champion as has my mom and other family and friends. In fact, anyone who sincerely prays for you is a champion. Everybody needs a champion in their life. People who are there to help you through the rough times. But many times, it is not only family and friends, it is people who just want to do the right thing. But people have human limitations when it comes to being a champion. I guess that is why we love superhero movies. However, there is One champion who is unparalleled in His powers. He has never lost a fight, never lost a battle, never lost a war. Of course, that is Jesus Christ. I am compelled to remind us of this because right now there maybe someone who is going through something and you think you have to take matters into your own hands. You are feeling alone and helpless especially during this time of year and you like others are dealing with the challenges of a pandemic. And let me say this. I am tired of talking about the pandemic and pray this time next year it will be eradicated from our vocabulary. You are not helpless and that is because you have a “Big Brother” who is "at the ready" to be your champion. Christmas is a wonderful time of year to celebrate Jesus’ birth but we have to remember to get Him out of the manger and allow Him to move in that unparalleled excellence exclusive to Him alone.

The devil would love for us to keep Jesus in the manger as a defenseless baby. But, it’s time now to pull him out of the manger and let Him activate the power in you. When my grandsons were little, they loved the Power Ranger characters (who, by the way, are still around). Power Rangers had all kinds of, well, powers, of course, Their individual powers ranged from super strength, superhuman speed, super hearing and vision, enhanced memory, invisibility, element manipulation, and the list, goes on and on. When it was time to transform into their designated power, they would say, “It’s morphin’ time.” In other words, it’s time to morph into whatever power he or she possessed. But I don’t think any, one Power Ranger held all the powers.

Well, our champion, Jesus Christ, does hold all the power and He has extended that power to us through the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:18 says, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” And Acts 1:8, says,But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” And there are literally thousands of promises in God’s Word to further empower us.

So, this Christmas, take Jesus out of the manger and allow Him to morph, not into a Power Ranger with limited powers, but into Your Champion Who indeed holds all power in His hands.

The winner and undefeated champion for all time remains, Jesus Christ, It is finished!
