Episode 4, “Be the Man, Be God’s Man”

Today, we will focus on Jesus and His care and concern for men. The first three episodes of this series, “Empowered Through Jesus, Our Living Hope,” focused on women. But ladies even though we will dedicate this episode to men, please listen and encourage your husbands, sons, brothers, nephews, grandsons, male friends and associates to listen to this podcast. They will understand that Jesus cares for them today just as He cared for men over 2,000 years ago.

Hello and welcome to Episode 4, in our new series “Empowered Through Christ, Our Living Hope.” My name is Stephanie Wright. Thank you for joining us today. The title of today’s episode is, “Be the Man, Be God’s Man.”

In I Corinthians16:13, Paul tells the men to act like men, be courageous, thus he is saying, “Be the Man.” Well, how can Paul say this? Because Jesus gave them all they needed to be “Be the Man.” Why can you, “Be the Man”? Because Jesus empowers men today just as he empowered them over 2000 years ago

We will look at only a few of the many men to whom Jesus showed care and concern, indeed, He showed His love toward men as the Son of Man.

One of the first men to come to mind is Bartimaeus, who was blind until Jesus heard his cries from the sidelines and miraculously restored Bartimaeus’ eyesight. What is so special about Bartimaeus is that he is one of the few persons Jesus healed whose real name is used. Mark 10:46. He was blind but now he could see. What did he do after Jesus restored his sight? Listen, it’s just speculation but as you read the gospel account, Bartimaeus was shouting from the sidelines to get Jesus’ attention because he knew Jesus could heal him. The crowd wanted him to shut up because they thought he was unworthy of Jesus’ attention. But he did not shut up and even cried the louder, “Thou son of David, have mercy on me.” So, if he cried aloud before he was healed, I believe he cried aloud to the people about Jesus even more, the one who gave him his sight back. In fact, Mark 10:54, says after Jesus told him his faith made him whole, Bartimaeus, “followed Jesus.” “Be the Man, Be God’s Man.” Follow Jesus.

If you have never been blind, sight impaired, or had a challenge to your sight, you cannot imagine how grateful Bartimaeus was to Jesus. But there is a blindness worse than the loss of natural eyesight, it is being blinded by sin and Satan’s determination to keep you blinded from receiving the enlightenment of salvation and the power of God within you. Are you the  man, are you God’s man? Have you opened your eyes to a new life in Christ and the power within you through the Holy Spirit? Have you continued to walk in that new life if you do know Him? Be the man, be God’s man today and let him open your eyes to His abundant life and how to continue in that life. John 10:10b

Next, we look at the lepers Jesus healed. Specifically, the 10 lepers in Luke 17. Leprosy is a disease that eats away at the flesh. During Jesus’ time there was no cure for leprosy but today, they say there is. In this case however, Jesus did not heal these lepers immediately, he first told them to walk away and go show themselves to the priest. So, they did and while they were walking away, they were healed. All they needed to do was just walk away by faith believing they would be healed. Indeed, they were healed but only one returned to thank Jesus. That leper was a Samaritan, a sworn enemy of the Jews. Nevertheless, Jesus told him the same thing he told Bartimaeus, “Arise, go your way: your faith has made you whole.” Luke 17:19. Here we have a lesson in being grateful and thanking God not only for his healing power but for everything He does for us and covers and protects us from. A true man of God is not ashamed to acknowledge God, God’s goodness, and the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes. Romans 1:16.

Let’s now turn to the paralyzed man at the Pool of Bethesda. John 5:2‑15. This man had been paralyzed 38 years and could not be healed because no one helped him into the healing waters at the Pool of Bethesda. Jesus didn’t ask him if he wanted to be healed, Jesus just told him to get up, take up his bed and walk, and he did! Later, Jesus was with this man in the temple and told him, “You are whole now. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto you.” Jesus’ cared for this man and made Him whole but Jesus cared more for the man’s soul because He strictly told him to “sin no more” or a worse thing could happen to him. Now, we know that if we sin God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That’s, 1 John 1:9. But we also know the Lord is not going to put up with sin and an unrepentant heart. Jesus came to give us victory over sin. I Corinthians 15:56‑57. Thus, Jesus came to empower you with victory over sin. You are a warrior and it is predetermined that you are a victor through Jesus Christ. So, be the man, be God’s man and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Last but certainly not least, the miracle that shows Jesus’ power over Satan in a most dramatic way. That is an understatement really. This account is found in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. This is the account of the man who was possessed with a legion of demons, meaning somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 demons; he was chained but would break free of the chains; and could be heard in the mountains crying in torment as he cut himself with stones (I guess so, 2000 to 5000 demons in his body controlling his spirit, his very soul). Furthermore, he lived in the tombs, that is, among the dead. Indeed, he was dead in body, soul, spirit, and mind. Nevertheless, he had sense enough to recognize Jesus and run and worship Jesus. Jesus wasted no time, he told the evil spirits to come out of him but made them identify themselves before they came out. This is where we learn this man is possessed of a legion (2 to 5 thousand evil spirits). Can you imagine?

Jesus did not carry on a conversation with these evil spirits, he just told them to get out of the man. What power! It’s the same power Jesus gave to you when you received the Holy Spirit (or when you do receive the Holy Spirit). Man of God, you have been called to do what Jesus empowered you to do, the same that He spoke of in Luke 4:18‑19, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Jesus was quoting from Isaiah 61:1‑3, which also says, “and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to comfort all that mourn; to give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”

Man of God, Be the Man, step into your calling, continue in your calling, or return to your calling. This is what God expects from you to be Luke 4:18‑19, to be Isaiah 6:1‑3, to “Be the Man, Be God’s Man.”

You know, that man possessed of the legion probably carried every type of evil that could be imagined including sexual sins like pornography, adultery, fornication, and many other sins. If you are bound today by any type of sin, you can be set free through the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray, fast, get in the word, and if you must confess to someone, find wise counsel. Pray for wise counsel though because there are many shepherds in wolves’ clothes (they say 68% of Christian men engage in some type of pornography and 50% of pastors (which is hard to believe!). So, find wise counsel. We have a friend who was delivered from sexual immorality only through much prayer and fasting. It did not happen overnight but he persisted and was finally delivered. Deliverance from sexual attractions is not easy but it can be done through the power of God. It will save your life, your marriage, and your family.

So, I will just close by saying what I said in the beginning. Be the Man, Be God’s Man.

Now, stay with us as Apostle Charles closes us out with contact information and for a short prayer. And if you would like to be a guest on our podcast contact me at cgmpresents@gmail.com

Closing
